Gunners searching for vintage American double guns realize that Ansley H. Fox created what he claimed to be “THE FINEST GUN IN THE WORLD”, and there is reason to agree.  Fox wisely created his 16ga. guns around the diminutive 20ga. frame, bringing to the world the lightest, best balanced of all the American double guns.  If you have been searching for a graded Fox 16ga. you have noticed how few are available.  Only 2500 Fox A Grades in 16ga. were ever produced, about 1300 with ejectors, AND ONLY ABOUT 10%, OR 130 GUNS, WERE PRODUCED WITH A STRAIGHT HAND ENGLISH STYLE STOCK.  THAT IS ONE REASON THIS GUN IS SO SPECIAL.  THEY ARE RARELY SEEN.  If you do find one, they are poorly described and the photographs tell you little, so how do you know which gun to buy?  Condition is important, and many guns were used hard and not well maintained.  IT IS EASY TO BUY THE WRONG GUN WITH COSTLY ISSUES.  At Vintage Firearms, Inc. (VFI) we inspect each gun before purchase, our 4 gunsmiths clean and service each gun as needed, and on most guns, we strip the actions to the smallest parts, Ultrasonic clean and scrub all parts to shiny metal, inspect all parts for integrity and function, make any replacements or repairs necessary, lubricate, and reassemble, providing VFI CERTIFIED GUNS, a $375 service in our shop.  THIS FOX AE 16GA. SN303480, IS VFI CERTIFIED AND COMES WITH A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY.  NONE of the other sellers provide this service.  Additionally, most of the early American 16ga. guns were short chambered for 2 9/16” shells.  PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE, TO FIND 2 ½” 16GA. SHELLS TO PURCHASE.  BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER, AND FINDING IT SAFE, LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” FIELD LOADS THROUGH OUR GUNS.  This is a $360 service in our shop.  Modern chambers and long forcing cones makes for safe shooting with softer recoil and better patterns, which benefit the shooter and preserve the integrity of these fine older doubleguns.  Other important factors are condition of the metal, screws, wood, and bores.  We provide the most comprehensive photography and specifications in the marketplace, information that allows you to make a good choice.  Just remember, nowhere is it more apparent than in the gun world…you get what you pay for!  If you want an upland gun you can rely on, buy one that is field ready and can safely shoot modern, available field loads.  This great Fox AE 16ga. weighs 6 1/4lbs. and balances perfectly ¼” ahead of the hinge pin, the mechanics are in perfect working order with functioning auto safety, well-timed ejectors, barrels tight on hinge pin and breech face, 85% factory case color with excellent screws, wood-to-metal fit superb, and excellent stock dimensions (see specifications below).  VFI rust blued the barrels, and they are in 100% condition, as is the trigger guard.  The wood finish is as new.  This gun shipped from the factory with a pistol grip stock and was properly converted to a straight grip including the long tang trigger guard and correct Fox stock shape and checkering pattern.  THIS IS A STUNNING FOX A GRADE WITH EJECTORS, 28” BARRELS CHOKED M/F, NEEDING NOT A THING FOR YOU TO TAKE HER TO THE UPLAND FIELDS OR CLAYS COURSE.  Everything has already been done, including being made safe to shoot modern, readily available ammunition.  What a “killer” pheasant and sharptail gun we have here!  Long length of pull, and great modern stock dimensions…THIS IS YOUR GUN!  Don’t hesitate, it won’t last long.  Thanks for looking.
