This is a very handsome tip-up rifle that has retained 90-92% of the original blue finish along the barrel along the barrel, with some mild silvering at the muzzle, as well as along the edges of the barrel facets. The retailer name is present on the top flat just ahead of the double folding-leaf rear sight: "HUNTER & SON ROYAL AVENUE BELFAST". The frame has retained about 40-45% of the original color case-hardening, mostly at the wrist juncture, and has a pleasant pewter gray patina on the balance. Both sides of the frame have "HUNTER & SON" in a riband engraved below the standing breech. The action lock-up is solid without any lateral play in the barrel, and the automatic extractor functions perfectly. The buttstock and horn-tipped forend are in very good-fine shape, having a few scattered handling marks and minor blemishes in the beautifully figured English walnut. This is a did example of a Tranter-type rook rifle, and rates fine condition overall.
