Here is a 2nd Model 1873 with lots of blue bluing, no rust and a bag of special features. Not only does this rifle have condition but finding its duplicate would be tough. The rifle is in .38-40 whereas most 2nd Models were .44-40. The rifle is also one of those made when Winchester ran short of rifle frames and had to use SRC frames to make rifles. This rifle has the carbine frame with the holes filled where the ring would have been attached. It is also one of the last made before the dust cover rail was built into the frame so it didn't have to be screwed on. And it has a shotgun butt, not very comon on Winchester rifles. Made in 1880.
The wood is in very nice shape with a few minor dings as one might expect after 142 years of acivity. A couple screwheads show minimal tool marks but most appear unturned. And the bore is bright with strong rifling and no corrosion. The one negative I find is that the front sight is a broken Beech sight. Original replacent sights are generally available on E-bay. This one looks as though its been with the rifle for some time and I'll let the new owner decide if it shold be replaced or not. As an antique it can be shipped to your door in most states.
