Extremely RARE Beretta 92 Combat Single Action Only Frame Safety. How many of these are in this country and have you ever seen one for sale before? If you found this by searching, then you already know what you are looking for; if you stumbled across it by accident, this is the unicorn you’ve been looking for. It has taken me over a year and a half to get this imported.
The 92 and 96 Combat series were Beretta’s single action IPSC pistols and were produced for just a short time. There weren’t many built in the first place and the 92 Combat was never imported into the USA. They were built for speed and accuracy and came with many racy features such as front slide serrations, coarse checkering on the front and back strap, large adjustable sights, a large mag release button, and magazines with large rubber bases for easy control and protection from dropping. The Combat also features a finely tuned SAO trigger and an accurizing barrel busing around the end of the 150mm barrel. The barrel weight at the muzzle helps improve overall balance and handling. The large, frame mounted ambi safety is easy to reach and operate. It is well placed, comfortable, easy to manipulate, and has a nice audible “click” into and out of engagement and is firm enough to be confident in its placement but easy enough to move that one with smaller or weaker hands will not fumble or fight with it. Another feature that the standard Beretta, and most other pistols on the market don’t have, is pre and over-travel adjustment screws for the trigger. Other notable changes that are visible are the extended beavertail on the combat and the slightly curvier, elongated trigger guard. Something you’ll notice as soon as you pick up a COMBAT or other special model is the MUCH more aggressive checkering. When you are holding this pistol, you are aware of it. Both front and back are very well done, with neat, crisp lines that come to sharp points. Needless to say, the Combat has all the bells and whistles that a competitive shooter could hope for.
Please view the photos here for the purpose of evaluating the condition for yourself. The bore is mirror bright. This pistol exhibits wear commensurate with age and usage. The brittle case is a bit rough. There is a chip of plastic missing from the corner by the right-side clasp, and there is a resultant diagonal crack crossing most of the top. Included in the sale is the 1997 catalog that mentions it.
