Description:
Featured is a World War II Japanese Type 14 semi-automatic pistol. The Nambu 14 was a common sidearm of Japanese officers leading up to and throughout World War II. 400,000 were produced from 1925 through the end of the war in 1945.
- This Nambu Type 14 is a 2nd series made at the Nagoya Arsenal in October 1944. The date of manufacture is determined from the 19.10 stamped on the right side of the frame just above and behind the grip. The Japanese calendar was based on the beginning of the reign of the Emperor. The reign of Emperor Taisho began in 1911 and the Type 14 was adopted 14 years later in 1925. This pistol is stamped 19.10 so the year 1944 is calculated by adding 19 to 1925. The month is derived from the 10 for the 10th month or October, hence the manufacture date is October 1944.
- It is of the starndard Japanese 8mm caliber with an 8+1 round capacity. The barrel length is 4½“.
- Because the pistol was made near the end of the war, the metal exhibits a typical late wartime finish with roughness, mill marks, and thin bluing. As a result, the metal on this gun exhibits some surface staining. However, even late production Nambu's were still considered rugged and reliable firearms.
- The bore is bright and clean.
- The wooden grips are in very good condition with no cracks or chips.
- All visible numbers match the serial number, including numbers on the bolt, trigger, and inside the wooden grips.
- The number on the magazine also matches the gun's serial number.
- The wooden grips are in good conditon with no chips or cracks.
