Description:
EXTREMELY RARE .22 SHORT CALIBER MODEL No. 4S ROLLING BLOCK MUSKET MARKED "AMERICAN BOY SCOUT" MADE FOR ONE YEAR ONLY IN 1913. This model was known as the "Military Model" and was made from 1913-1923. The frames on these were marked "MILITARY MODEL" except for a limited number made the first year which were stamped "AMERICAN BOY SCOUT." All of this unusual model are scarce and seldom seen with the first year "Boy Scout" variant extremely rare. There is some detailed info on this rifle in James Grant's book Boys' Single Shot Rifles. This is a particularly fine example that still retains good, lightly faded dark case colors on the receiver and fine barrel blue that shows light age only. The "screw" bayonet lug is still on the barrel bottom near the muzzle- these often missing- and the special ladder rear sight with slide is also intact. Markings are excellent including the American Boy Scout stamping on the frame and the Remington address and patents on the barrel top. The butt stock, forend and handguard all match, retain correct sling swivels, are original and are in excellent condition with tight wood to metal fit and show only very light handling. The action is tight and the bore shows good rifling throughout with scattered light roughness. A wonderful example from a time long gone! (Flayderman's Guide  to Antique American Firearms and their values, 9th and last edition from 2007 lists this one in exc. condition at $3500) My price  $2150.
