Metal has an even chocolate brown patina on the barrel. Frame is a mottle gray to brown patina. Wood is very good as field worn. These were the least expensive of the Sharps Rifles and were commonly used during the Buffalo Hunts. This gun comes with a factory letter and was shipped to Henry Squires & Company in New York who was a sporting goods dealer. This gun letters as a Hunters rifle in 45 caliber with a 30 inch barrel. This was either a mistake in the records or the gun was shipped back to sharps and it was not recorded in the records. The barrel’s serial numbers matches the frame. Very nice long barrel Sharps!
