Description:
A H Fox first ever made 28-gauge SxS! In the “old” Fox days there was never a 28-gauge gun made. It was not until 1996 that the first one came out of the factory AND this is that gun. CSMC built it for the 1996 trade show season. It was shown that year un-engraved and displayed in the “white”. The original owner bought it, let CSMC continue to use it for a sales tool that year then ordered it engraved and finished.
The result is this one-of-a-kind DE Special engraved and gold inlayed by master engraver Jim Demunk. The pattern has deep cut scroll, floral and oak leaves highlighted with gold inlays of wood cock on the left, flushing pheasants on the right and grouse on the bottom. Master Demunk’s exquisite work continues on to the trigger guard/bottom tang, the forearm iron, top lever/top tang and even the chamber area of the barrels. One of the best scaled, best executed, tasteful engraving jobs ever.
The basics: 28 gauge, 28” (27 7/8”) barrels. Both with .550” bore diameters and the right barrel choked .008” and the right barrel at .018”. The raised solid rib gradually tapers from 3/8” to 5/16” at the muzzle and has one ivory front bead.
The exquisitely figured Black Walnut Exhibition Grade straight grip stock has a 14 5/8” LOP to the checkered butt with a 1 ½” DAC and a 2 3/8” DAH with a neutral cast. The forearm is a beautifully scale beavertail cut from the same gorgeous piece of wood as the butt. The checkering is elegant and finely cut to be a perfect complement to the rest of the gun.
This magnificent 28 is absolutely unfired, in new condition and comes in the maker’s full leather luggage case.
One note: Somewhere at sometime during the 26 years that this gun as been in a private collect a small handling mark has found its way to the right side of the butt about 2” from the heel and about 1 ¼” below the comb. I have no doubt that a trained stock finisher could easily address the “mark”!
