****SOLD**** Presented here is an antique Colt 1851 Navy percussion revolver chambered in .36 caliber. The Colt Revolving Belt Pistol or Navy Pistol is a cap and ball revolver that was designed by Samuel Colt between 1847 and 1850. Colt first referred to this Revolver as the Ranger Size model, and then Revolving Belt, but the designation "Navy" quickly took over. After the Civil War, revolvers using fixed metallic cartridges came into widespread use. The Colt Navy remained in production until 1873, being replaced in the Colt line with what would become one of the manufacturer's most famous handguns, the Colt Single Action Army. This particular example has the larger trigger guard and steel grip straps. The original finish has worn to a handsome warm grey patina. The wood grip panels are free of chips or cracks. Mechanically the gun has some play in the cylinder but everything operates as it's designed to work. Two screws have been replaced on the barrel lug at some point in time. British proof marks are found where they should be located on the breech end of the cylinder and the left side of the barrel lug. This Colt Navy would make a great addition to a collection of Colts and if it could talk it would likely have some tales of adventure.
