VERY LIMITED PRODUCTION AND HARD TO FIND STEVENS 55 LADIES' MODEL, .22 LONG RIFLE, #64XXX, MADE 1897-1916. The Ladies' Model was built on the small "Favorite" frame and was a lightweight deluxe model in every way geared toward lady and youth shooters. This example has the standard 24" half octagon barrel fitted with the correct Beach combination folding globe front sight, gallery rear barrel sight and Lyman tang sight with small folding aperture intact. The stock is a beautiful rich fancy burl walnut with checkered pistol grip and Swiss butt plate. The forend has a graceful schnable and is also checkered. The barrel retains about all of the lightly aged blue with excellent markings and matching number on the bottom. The uncleaned receiver has aged dark with some darkened case colors mainly on the left side and on the receiver top around the hammer. The professionally relined bore is excellent and only noticeable by looking carefully for the liner ring at the muzzle. The action is tight with light trigger pull. A most attractive Stevens takedown rifle with model designation "55" stamped in the front face of the receiver when the barrel assembly is removed. This fine and fancy rifle must have been someone's pride and joy around the turn of the last century!
