Here we have a very unusual Springfield Model 87M training rifle chambered in .22 long rifle. Designed to look like the M1 Garand, this 22 caliber rimfire rifle features a military style fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight. The top of the receiver is marked "SPRINGFIELD MODEL 87M" over the address. The trigger guard is synthetic and the stock is a one piece pistol grip with the handguard, checkered steel buttplate and brown leather military style sling. J. Stevens produced the rifle between the late 1930s and early '40s. The action of the 87M is nicknamed "Gill Gun" due to the vents on the left side of the receiver. The 87M action is also called "Clickity Clack" referring to the sound of the semi-auto action when fired. This particular example is in very good condition with only the slightest of high edge wear and the wood is exceptional. There is some discoloration of the metal butt plate. The rifle utilizes a tubular magazine and has an adjustable rear sight. The 24 inch barrel has a good bore with strong rifling.
