MANUFACTURE d’ ARMES French BOXLOCK Side by Side
Here we present a C&R Engraved French Manufacture d’ Armes Ideal Model “3R” Boxlock Double Barrel Side by Side Hammerless Shotgun, made circa the 1940s in France. The French have always been inventive gunmakers. Names like Pauly, Lefecheaux, and Darne gave the world some unique ideas on how double barrel shotguns could be made. Manufacture d’ Armes de Saint Etienne did the same thing. Their Ideal shotguns was another unique contribution to history of side by sides. Ideal-model shotguns were introduced in 1887 and were made into the 1960s. This example was likely manufactured prior to 1940. It has a long lever behind the trigger guard that opens the breech for loading and unloading. Internal hammers result in a very sleek package.
The overall condition is good. Original finish and patina. The actions are excellent. The bores are bright and smooth. The stock shows lots of use and wear. There are some old chips around the frame and the stock remains solid.
