Description:
30 inch round barrel chambered in 46 RF caliber with a bright shiny bore with strong rifling. Sights include a blade front and a 2 position flip up rear as well as a modern production Vernier mid-range tang sight mounted on a brass base plate. Barrel retains about 80% original blue with scattered patches of light oxidation. The top of the barrel is marked No46 indicating .46 caliber. Receiver has good amounts of smokey case colors with some vibrant color in protected areas. Nice Ballard patent markings as well as serial numbers. Straight grain smooth walnut stocks are in good condition while retaining a good amount of the original oil finish. Just a few of the normal handling dings and mars. Bottom of buttstock has an empty hole from a missing sling swivel. Good functioning action. Manual extractor. The Brown dual ignition system was somewhat simpler than the original Ballard dual ignition system. The original system required the user to swivel the hammer striker for either Rimfire or percussion use. The Brown system used a floating firing pin in the breech block and recessed hammer nose that allowed the same hammer to fire both systems simultaneously without adjusting the hammer. Not a bad looking example of a duel ignition Brown made Ballard Sporting Rifle.
