Description:
Browning Superposed 20 Gauge Pigeon Grade.
Serial # 11290, Date of mfg. 1957. This Pigeon Grade was engraved by the Master himself! Felix Funken. Stock dimensions: 14 3/8” LOP. 1 3/8 DAC. And 2 ½” DAH. The barrels are 28” and are choked Under Barrel Mod., and Top Barrel Full. This is the Standard weight Superposed, not the Lightning model. Weight is: 6# 6oz.
The standard weight in my opinion has more refined handling characteristics. This in part is due to the slight weight increase over the Lightning, and the 28” barrels. This Superposed balances right on the hinge pin, mounts, and swings beautifully. As many a Browning aficionado will recognize, Felix Funken was a unique and talented engraver.
He was the grand master engraving instructor at FN / Browning for a time. He worked from 1926 until 1960. He passed away in 1965. Now zoom in on the right side of the receiver and look to the lower left corner and you will see Felix Funken signed his work. Only engraving masters are allowed to sign their work. He was also key in developing the Superposed grade engraving patterns. Note the liveliness, and expressions of the pigeons. Also note the flowing and gracefulness of his unique scroll work. Challenge! Now look at another Pigeon grade from another Browning engraver very closely. You will see the differences immediately! This is truly a functional work of art. $7,800.00.
