Description:
Manufactured 1944, the receiver of this carbine features the standard Winchester markings with an "AW" on the heel, indicating a carbine made using a receiver that was started by Underwood and transferred to Winchester as surplus. The Underwood name is stamped under the rear sight and has a deep line through it. Blade front and adjustable rear sights, recoil plate and hammer, Type III barrel band marked “C” level with the sling attachment and original sling, round bolt, milled Type V trigger guard, and a Type III "EW" button safety and Type IV “M” marked magazine catch. Flat-bottomed low-wood stock, with a 4-rivet handguard, Ordnance "crossed cannons" on the right side and “WWD” stamped on the right side of the grip in 1/8” letters (I do not think this a is rebuild mark, please tell me if I am mistaken) , oval sling well (not marked) and a checkered buttplate. Barrel is 18” . Parkerized finish on barrel and action is in good shape with some patina. Walnut stock, no cracks at stress points, no selector notch, no rebuild marks, no marking on bottom of grip. Stock does have a couple dents that are captured in pictures. Based on my research the carbine appears to be correct and original with all its parts.
