Serial No. 461879 made in 1889, 45-70, 32.75"" round proofed barrel. Barrels original blue is starting to thin with areas of mottled oxidation visible. Traces of case coloring are visible on breech, lock plate has scattered oxidation. Bore is good with some areas of pitting and frosting present. Stock shows expected wear with dings, nicks and scratches. Handsome 1889 cartouche is noted. This rifle was issued to 9th U.S. Volunteers Co. D, this regiment was raised out of New Orleans, LA. They would be sent to Cuba for garrison duty at the end of the Spanish American War.
