Presented here is a very nice First Series Colt Woodsman Match Target semi-auto pistol in .22 long rifle caliber. The Colt Woodsman is a semi-automatic sporting pistol manufactured by the U.S. Manufacturing Company from 1915 to 1977. It was designed by John Moses Browning. The frame design changed over time, in three distinct series: series one being 1915–1941, series two 1947–1955, and series three 1955–1977. This particular example is a First Series in the Match Target configuration and was made in 1939. This particular example is a First Series in the Match Target configuration and was made in 1939. This pistol is in very good mechanical and physical condition exhibiting just slight high edge wear and some muzzle wear. The finish is thinning a little where theof the right hand would contact the back of the frame. The 6.625 inch barrel is bright with strong rifling. The bluing on this gun is beautiful and rich. The rear sight is adjustable for both elevation and windage and the front is of target style.The highly desirable Lew Sanderson grips are in outstanding condition and would cost approximately $500 today. The way the grips are carved this is definately a pistol for a right handed shooter. This fine Colt Woodsman would make a great addition to a collection and will almost assurably appreciate in value.
