Description:
Merkel 280EL with a brass bead sight on the matte solid rib. The barrels have 2 3/4 inch chambers marked "VBZ/1/2", improved cylinder/modified on the barrel flats. The right barrel is marked "KRUPP-STAHL" and the left barrel is marked with the importer "GSI INC. T ' VILLE AL" with" MADE IN GERMANY". The coin finished scalloped box lock action features a detailed game scene of two rabbits engraved on the right side with flourishes. The left is engraved with a game scene of two birds with flourishes. The left side of the action is signed BB (Bernd Becher). He is a master engraver with 50 years experience with Merkel. The underside features detailed engraving. This Merkel also features an engraved tang, thumb safety, double triggers, ejectors, bushed firing pins and engraved trigger guard, checkered walnut splinter forearm with engraved hardware, English style straight grip stock with a serrated plastic Merkel buttplate. The stock dimensions are 1 3/8 X 2 1/2 X 14 1/4 over the original Merkel butt plate. The gun is completed in all matching serial numbers throughout with a date code of "2AC" stamped on the right barrel flat. With research done on the internet it appears this Merkel's date code is from February 2002. 28 Gauge
