This is a nice early example of a 1st model second issue .22: short. The model 1 is the gun the first practical self contained cartridge was developed for this model. This example was produced in January of 1865 so it is classed as a civil war firearm and could possibly have been used in the Civil war . These little pistols were popular as a concealed back up weapon by both sides in the war. This is a nice mechanically sound example, 3 3/16" bbl with A very good bore. Nice lands and grooves but with a little pitting. Almost all the silver plate remains and has nice period blue. It comes in a wood case that has been re lined it comes with vintage real ivory grips as well as the original rosewood grips, number stamped with the serial number. The original grips are in virtually unused condition. These historic pistols are getting harder and harder to find in this condition especially at a reasonable price. This would make a fine cornerstone for any Smith and Wesson collection sold as is. Trades or offers accepted.
