Early 20th Century Mauser Export to ARGENTINA
Here we present a C&R DWM Argentine Contract Model 1891 Bolt Action Mauser Rifle made by Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken circa the turn of the century in Berlin, Germany. This example is one of the many “export” rifles made for foreign governments, all based on the Mauser Model 1889.
One of the defining features of the Argentine Mauser was its thin sheet steel jacket surrounding the barrel. This was a rather unusual element not common to any other Mauser mark of note. The jacket was instituted as a feature intended to maintain the effectiveness of the barrel and the solid wooden body over time, otherwise lengthening its service life and long-term accuracy when exposed to excessive firing and battlefield abuse.
The overall condition is good. Excellent action. Bright bore. The stock contains less than average wear. Numbers match. Sharp markings. This example is nicely refinished. Like almost all of the Argentine Mausers we have seen, this one has had the Argentine Crest removed from above the chamber.
