Description:
The Springfield Model 1884 rifle featured here is in excellent condition, which this seller rates in NRA Antique Excellent +90%. It is all original and unaltered.
  • It was manufactured at the Springfield Armory in 1889.
  • It is single shot in 45-70 caliber with an overall lenght of 52" and a 32.5" barrel.
  • The metal has no dents, rust, or pitting.
  • The bore is excellent, sharp and shiny, with no rust or pitting. 
  • Markings on the metal include a well defined eagle and "US Springfield" on the lock. On top of the breech block is "US Model 1884". The top of the receiver has the serial nunber 4759xx and an eagle's head with "V.P" and a "P". The two barrel bands are stamped with a "U". 
  • The stock has very good wood with a few minor dents. It is unsanded and has no repairs.
  • Markings on the stock include a very well defined inspector's cartouche, "SWP 1889", which stands for Samuel W. Porter and the date of manufacture. Porter was master armorer at Springfield. There is a very nice "P" proof mark in the underside of the stock wrist.
  • It has the correct Buffington rear sight and the original cleaning rod.
