Description:
The Model 1873 sprocket bayonet was produced by Springfield for the Model 1873 and Model 1884 trapdoor rifles.
- The Model 1873 bayonet featured here is in good overall condition.
- The fullered triangular blade is bright and nicely blued with no nicks or damage.
- The sprocket retains most of its bluing but has some rust pitting on the top.
- The locking mechanism is complete and undamaged.
- The base of the blade is stamped "US" along with a small "s", which may stand for Springfield.
- The steel scabbard is in good overall condition. The steel body is painted black. There are no dents but it has some chips and scratches with some surface rust. I attempted to photograph the worst of the chipped area for the buyer to see.
- The mouth of the scabbard is stamped with a date that appears to be "JAN 12 1886". The paint makes it difficult to read as can be seen in the photo.
- The black leather frog is very nice with supple leather and strong stitching. The belt loop rotates freely.
- The brass rosette is unmarked. Unmarked buttons were not untypical for scabbards used by state militia's. I was told that this praticular scabbard was issued to the New York Milita. The NY Militia was later reformed as the NY National Guard.
Add $25 for insured shipping within the lower 48 states. Shipping to Alaska will be an additional $5.
