Description:
Late-1700s IRISH Antique Wm. RUMBOLD of DUBLIN FLINTLOCK .63 Caliber Pistol

Large Martial Pistol Made in Dublin, Ireland!

Here we present an antique William Rumbold Flintlock Pistol, made circa the late 1700s in Dublin, Ireland. Rumbold is recorded as of 1802 at 17 Lwr Ormond Quay in Dublin, and later at 34 Sackville Street. This large bore martial pistol would have been intended for use as a serious sidearm. It is a large sized flintlock, being able to fit into one’s belt or more likely in a holster.

This pistol features a .63 caliber smooth bore with a 8 ½ inch hefty barrel. There is a starburst motif engraved on the top of the midpoint of the barrel and the breech end is banded in silver. The trigger guard has a finger extension. The lock is nicely engraved with fowl and the maker’s name “RUMBOLD”. The flash pan is on a hinge that has the ability to tilt out away from the lock plate. The rammer is original and is tipped with horn and has the worm on the other end. A rack or inventory number “N/23” is stamped atop the wrist indicating some official use. No British proofs.

The overall condition is very good. Strong, crisp action. Good, smooth bore (aged). Solid grip/stock with less than average wear and contains only minor dents and dings. Some chipping around the barrel wedge. A very nice and rare example of an Irish flintlock pistol by Rumbold!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 8-1/2 inches.

Caliber: .63 Flintlock

Overall condition as seen in photos.
