1853 Anchor S Enfield rifle musket
This rifle musket is dated 1863 on the tower marked lock. It is full length and has Birmingham proofs on the barrel. The metal has a deep brown patina. It is missing the rear sight and the cone is damaged. It does have a ramrod. The stock is full length and has some bumps and bruises. It has a clear Anchor S stamped in the wood in front of the buttplate tang. This mark is a confederate inspectors mark. This Enfield did see service and has some burnout behind the bolster. Still it is a solid example of a Southern used Enfield. There are some soldier carvings on each side of the butt.
