Rare Springfield Model 1880 .45-70 Trapdoor Rifle with Experimental Triangular Bayonet. Rare gun with only 1001 of these made. This gun has a rare triangular captive ramrod bayonet. The military eventually went with a very similar system for the Model 1888. Gun is with a round bayonet. This gun has a dark brownish gray patina on the metal. The wood shows wear and a repaired split on the last two inches of the stock forward of the barrel band.
