Description:
This rifle, a January 1944 Springfield Armory build serial number 2514764, is a correct restoration. The beautiful stock has an original USGI SA/GAW Cartouche with a small Ordnance emblem and matching hand guards.  The SA 1 44 barrel has an excellent bore, TE 2 and ¼, MZ 0.  It has a Lock Bar Rear Sight and a correct -12 trigger housing with a -5 Hammer and a -11 Safety.  The curved side -9 Operating Rod has not had the modification (it is called an “uncut op rod”.  The -12 Bolt is correct.  The gas cylinder has wide base, a WWII gas cylinder lock and a correct poppet valve lock screw.  The right front leg shows a Springfield Armory 1964 hand etched rebuild mark.

A couple comments about the M-1 Garands being sold on the internet at the various sites.    You will see recent CMP “EXPERT GRADE” M-1’s sold for over $2000 with a beautiful new CMP stock, and new barrel.   These are merely rebuilds of Garand receivers that did not meet safety specs and the CMP gunsmiths built a new rifle.   They are great shooter Garands,  but not collectible or original in their configuration.    You can buy them at dot thecmp  dot  com   for about $1150 dollars.

Next on the food chain are CMP Service and Rack grade M-1’s  that may have been rebuilt during the 1950’s to 1970’s  by the US ARMY and put into storage,  until they were released to the CMP  (earlier known as the DCM (Director of Civilian Marksmanship) for resale to eligible civilians to promote military marksmanship.    They are not always pretty,  but they work, and these Garands are GI Original.

Top of the food chain are Collector Grade and Correct grade Garands.  These are the collectible models that were never sent back to Army Depot’s to be broken down,  and rebuilt prior to Government storage.    The receiver date matches the barrel date,  the barrel wear is minimal and the outside appearance is used,  gently,  but not abused like the Rack grade M-1’s.

The reason why we provide over 20 plus pictures of our Garands is to allow collectors a fair chance to evaluate and purchase accordingly.      Everyone has a budget and a desire.    A shooter goes for $1000-1200 with decent barrel and throat erosion.     Great for fun and Garand matches.     Higher grades go for top dollar.

We are always willing to answer questions on our items for sale, and glad to provide additional pix and information.    Just ask by email to ron.burgy at coloradoclass3  dot com
