Russian SKS in 7.62x39 mm. This is in great condition. There are some marks from being used. It does have the cleaning kit in the stock. SKS stands for self-loading carbine of Simonov. The rifle was designed by Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov. This rifle was designed to replace the Russian SVT-38 and SVT-40 rifles. The Russians also developed the 7.62x39 mm cartridge after the, the successful at the time, German 7.92x33 Kurz being used in the MP 43, MP 44, and the Strumgewher 44. 7.62x39 mm round was adopted in 1943 and has been in service ever since. The SKS was only in service for two year due to the adoption of the famous AK-47. Few SKS rifles are in use today, but are mainly used for ceremonies 7.62x39mm
