This is a brand-new Generation 4 Glock 40. The Glock 40 was originally introduced in 2015. This was around the time that 10mm Auto began to pick up in popularity again after many years of playing second fiddle to the .40 S&W. While the latter is more suited for self-defense in urban areas, the power of the 10mm Auto makes it eminently suitable among semi-auto pistol cartridges for use in the world of hunting and protection from large predators in the woods. One notable advantage of the G40 over its competitors is its high magazine capacity. The pistol holds 15 rounds in the mag plus one in the chamber, except for those intended for sale in states which restrict magazine capacity, which hold 10 rounds plus one. This provides the G40 with a major advantage that hunting revolvers cannot match. While a Smith & Wesson 629 in .44 Magnum may be more powerful, it only holds 6 shots. While there are certainly more powerful semi-auto cartridges such as the .45 Win Mag, and even the .44 Magnum itself, the 10mm is far easier to come by and certainly less expensive. Magazines are another consideration. Magazines for the AutoMag IV and LAR Grizzly, both chambered in the .45 WM, are literally two or three times the cost of a G40 magazine, as are the pistols themselves. The Desert Eagle can chamber both the .44 Magnum and .50 AE, but again, the lower capacity and cost of the ammo and magazines are prohibitive compared to the alternative that Glock provides. The idea for the G40’s 6-inch barrel arguably has two origins. One is that the G40 is essentially a larger G17L which is a 6-inch barreled version of the standard G17. The second origin is the aftermarket production of 6-inch barrels for the original G20 pistol for use in hunting. Either way, the long barrel provides the G40 with excellent ballistics for the 10mm compared to its shorter-barreled counterparts. More powder is burned in the barrel rather than being wasted as muzzle flash. The G40 is equipped for the mounting of an optic and comes with 4 optic plates and the associated screws. Naturally, the pistol comes with the Glock box, 2 spare magazines (for a total of 3), alternate back strap options and the associated extra-long pin, back strap change-out tool, a magazine loading tool, rear sight adjustment tool, the manual, and a cleaning rod and brush.
