Description:
Vietnam War carried Smith & Wesson Model 37 Chief's Special Airweight in high condition with provenance. This revolver was shipped to the famous Interarms Corporation in Alexandria Virginia. The owner of Interarms, Samuel Cummings was a former CIA agent and one of the largest international arms dealers in the world. On many occasions during the Cold War, Interarms was involved in arms deals in various hot spots around the globe at the behest of the CIA. According to the Vietnam veteran we aquired this revolver from, while serving as an Army Intelligence Officer in Hue during 1965-1966, this was his personal sidearm. The Model 37 was aquired by the veteran in theater from an Army Captain who had aquired it from a South Vietnamese Army Intellegence Officer who had received it as a gift from the CIA. This Smith was carried by the veteran for the duration of his tour of duty and remains in outstanding condition. This double-action 5-shot revolver features blue finish, alloy frame, fixed sights, and checkered diamond grips.  It is serial number 22529 which puts the date of manufacture in 1961.  The blue finish on this gun rates 98+%, with the only deductions coming from a faint drag-line around the cylinder.  The bores in both the barrel and cylinder are mirror-bright and no visible imperfections.  The rifling still looks new with sharp lands and grooves throughout the barrel.  The factory numbered grips are in excellent overall condition as well, with some slight wear on the right panel from being carried some.  Both grips are perfectly fit to the gun and tight to the metal with no wiggle.  The mechanics of this Smith are in perfect working order just like the day it left the factory 62 years ago.  The Model 37 includes a 3-ring binder with with the veteran's account of his aquisition and use of the weapon during service in Vietnam, as well as the S&W factory letter, and two printed articles on the topic of U.S. Military intelligence's role during the Vietnam War. Also included are several articles pertaining to Samuel Cummings and the history of Interarms Corporation. If you are a collector who values an interesting history with your firearms, this revolver would be tough to beat. This Chief's Special Airweight would be a great addition to any Military or Vietnam collection and should make an outstanding investment.
