ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1861 RIFLE-MUSKET DATED 1861. All original with the scarce and desirable “1861” date. 58 cal. 40” barrel. Lock stamped “U.S. SPRINGFIELD” and dated 1861. Stock with the initials “W.H.” on butt. Side panel with visible Ordnance Inspector’s Cartouche. Very good overall with original patina. A war used example as are all the 1861 dated Springfield issued at the start of the war and used until the end of the war. Lock in working order. Bore dark with moderate pitting. Original ramrod.
