Description:
Original Model 1841 Mississippi Rifle barrel, full length 33 inches long, in original .54 caliber configuration. Barrel is mostly smooth and likely would clean up better. While there is pitting around the bolster and tang, you can still see the "US/SK/VP" inspector markings. You can barely make out the numbers "49" of the 1849 date on the barrel tang. Has matching mating letters of "J" over "X" on the breech plug and barrel. Barrel still retains a decent amount of rifling. At one time the barrel was fitted with a bayonet stud, now removed, but I believe that the style in which it had been attached (2 screws and a dovetail) show this to be a New Hampshire style alteration so it was likely issued to New Hampshire infantry troops. There is a ding on the muzzle where the barrel was hit or dropped on a rock or other hard surface. Please take a look at all the photos, as they provide the best description. I will include the original tang screw that held the barrel to the rest of the gun. If your Mississippi Rifle has a barrel that was bored out for shotgun use after the war, or has had the rifling shot out, this would be a decent replacement. Shipping to the lower 48 States only.
