An Early, Scarce, And Very Desirable Civil War "ZACHARY TAYYLOR, G.W. WOSTENHOLM & SONS, WASHINGTON WORKS, IXL" Marked Bowie Knife With Original Sheath In Excellent Condition. All original and complete. The knife has an excellent blade and very clear markings as shown in the photos. It has the Zachary Taylor stamping on the ricasso. The blade also reads in a banner, "THE REAL IXL KNIFE". The blade is bright throughout with no scratches or polishing marks on it. The coffin style rosewood handle with German silver is excellent throughout. The entire knife measures 13 inches in length. The blade measures 8 inches long and is 1 5/8 inches wide. The original sheath is fine plus throughout and is marked "IXL" in gold. It has fine fittings made of silver. This Is A Very Difficult Civil War Bowie Knife To Find Especially in This Excellent Condition. It Definitely Has All The Bells And Whistles And Could Definitely Have Been Carried By A Union Or Confederate Officer Or Soldier During The War!
