SUPERB CONDITION ANTIQUE, BRIGHT BLUE RARE 1891 SINGLE SHOT TARGET PISTOL, .22 LONG RIFLE, 8" BARREL, #16XXX, MADE 1890s. Exact production numbers on this first model single shot target pistol is not known, but is assumed to be not more than 1,000. The second and third model single shots were made in much larger numbers, many times the number of 1891s. The 1891 is easily identified because it retains the recoil shields on both sides of the receiver behind the barrel as it used the revolver frame. Later models do not have this. Overall, nearly all the high polish deep blue remains and one would have to look extremely carefully to see any blue wear, even on the edges! Correct extension hard rubber grips are excellent. Markings are sharp on the barrel top as is the S&W logo on the right side of the frame. Vivid case colors remain on the hammer and good fading case colors remain on the trigger guard. Bore is bright and excellent and importantly, the serial numbers match on the barrel, barrel catch and frame. Considering this model was made in 6", 8", and 10" barrel lengths, this must be one of the finest 8" barrel examples extant. About as fine as one could ever hope to encounter!
