Description: Model 1841 Ames Naval Cutlass dated 1845. Only 6600 of these were made between 1841 and 1847, but they were used for many years afterwards. This one appears to have been refurbished at some point during its time of service, as the blade seems to have been reground long ago. On one side of the blade you can still see the N P and part of the A for "N P AMES", and part of the "SPRINGFIELD" below that. On the other side you can see the 845 of the 1845 date, with an R below that. Face of the guard is stamped with the number 34. Back of the handguard is stamped with 2D16, which I believe denotes the rack number where it was stored on the ship. Inspector initials of JL (Joseph Lenmand) on one side of the quillion, and RC (Rufus Chandler) on the other. Please take a look at all the photos as they provide the best description. Shipping to the lower contiguous 48 states. Shipping cost $30.00. SOLD |
