Description:
This beautiful Stevens Falling Block rifle was manufactured in Chicopee Falls Mass. by the J. Stevens Arms & Tool Company. Under this Company name these guns were produced from 1886 until 1915 only. Wood is solid with only a few light use marks and scratches mostly on right and bottom of butt. Holes in forend bottom originally held a palm rest which is now gone. Gun has actual original finish left on wood with original blue with nice case coloring remaining. Bore still has visible rifling and remains bright. The .28-30 Caliber is considered the first 7 mm centerfire rifle cartridge. It is said that if the Sharps rifle cartridges were for the long range hunter the Stevens cartridges were for every man! This cartridge has seen a resurgence in popularity and can be found available again today. Gun has original target scope blocks with front globe sight with ghost ring and tang mounted peep rear. This is an amazing, interesting and uniquely beautiful gun.
