Here we present an early Al Biesen custom bolt action rifle built on an FM Mauser Supreme action in .25-06 caliber. Al Biesen was born in Lacrosse Wisconsin in 1918 and started building custom guns in the 1940s. At the end of that decade, he approached Jack O'Connor about restocking a rifle for him. Jack felt that the rifle was "too pretty" and requested he build another one. This second rifle was a featherweight, pre-64 Model 70 Winchester with the now famous fleur-d-leis checkering pattern. Jack considered this rifle his favorite. Many of Jack's articles and stories talked about his favorite Biesen rifle. O'Connor's writings helped make Al Biesen one of the world's most famous custom gunmakers. This rifle was made after Biesen had relocated to Spokane Washington. This particular Al Biesen rifle has a classic American-style Monte Carlo stock that has very nice grain and point pattern checkering. The Mauser 98 action is considered one of the most influential designs in modern bolt rifles. The bolt has a full-length claw extractor, and the handle is checkered on the underside. The 22" barrel has a medium sporter contour and a target crown and a very minty bore with strong rifling. An adjustable trigger, steel trigger guard with a hinged floorplate, and Pachmayr Old English recoil pad round out the highlights of this beautiful Al Biesen bolt action rifle. It is truly a beautiful piece of custom gunsmithing and has light handling marks - a few marks on the underside of the barrel just in front of the end of the stock. This rifle would stand up well in any collection of fine firearms.
