Description: This HM Pope Stevens Ideal Schuetzen Special was manufactured between 1897 and 1915 and remains in excellent overall condition. I would be remiss if did not mention the fascinating history that accompanies this gun. Harry Melville Pope was born in August of 1861 and was known as making "the finest rifle barrels in the world". Even though he had never advertised he was made famous worldwide, smashed world records and won many Olympic games. The collaboration between HM Pope and Stevens began with this announcement in the Steven No. 50 catalog. "You will notice by this announcement below of Mr. HM Pope that we have made arrangements to manufacture and sell his celebrated rifle barrels. Mr. Pope has built up a national reputation as a manufacturer of high grade rifle barrels, and combining the best features of the 2 companies, will be able to produce one of the most perfect rifle barrels it is possible to make. There will be no reduction in the price of this special work. Mr. Pope will personally supervise all fine rifle and pistol work and fit barrels to any standard action. The new barrel will be known as the Stevens-Pope." This gun has beautifully figured wood with elaborate cheekpiece. Wood remains solid with some light scratches and dings but good original finish. Receiver is ornately and wonderfully decorated with horse and rider on left and deer scene on right. Case color is still visible and remains bright. Original blue also remains excellent showing little wear but some light oxidation, mostly to bottom of barrel. Bore is excellent! Gun is complete with original globe front sight and vernier tang rear. This is an absolutely beautiful gun! .22 Long SOLD Metal Condition: Excellent Wood Condition: Excellent Bore Condition: Excellent Barrels: 30" Heavy Barrel - Half Round - Half Octagon Triggers: Factory - Double Set Stock Dimensions: 13 1/2" LOP Fore End: Checkered Walnut Straight Grip - Checkered Walnut Schnabel Forend Butt Pad: Nickle Plated Schuetzen Style Swiss Butt Plate Weight: 11 lb Sights: Globe Front Sight with Ghost Ring - Stevens Vernier Rear Tang Sight Item Location: Wheeling |
