Description:
Truly the FIRST semiautomatic pistol, the great great grandfather of all modern handguns, one of only a handful known, this all matching example one of 25 guns accepted by the Austrian Military for testing in 1897 with the acceptance markings on the left side of the frame. A fantastic find by any metric. Identical to the pistol pictured in the classic reference text by Motz and Schuy on pages , this prototype/experimental pistol functions as a single action blowback with an external hammer, has a 5.75” barrel with a fixed front and rear sight. Convenient controls at rear function as a manual hold open/slide release and safety. The cartridge cut off is reflected by the spring loaded button at the upper right receiver. Clip fed through a hinged trap door on butt located next to large rotatable lanyard ring. Smooth grips, each with an oval escutcheon, secured by a single transverse screw. Synopsis: Extraordinarily Rare, First Semiautomatic Pistol, Salvatore, Dormus, 1896, Austrian Military Test, 8mm, 17, O-82 Condition: VG + original rust blue with areas of fading and patchy oxidation as one might expect from a first of kind test pistol that was carefully evaluated by the Austrian Military about 130 years ago. In-the-white bolt and hammer with staining and light etching. Faded case hardened hammer. Oil darkened grips with scattered handling dings but no chips or significant loses. Very bright bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. The ultimate Holy Grail for anyone interested in semiautomatic small arms technology regardless of their focus. ~~Insured shipping fee of $155; most packages shipped using FedEx 2nd Day.~~
