SOLD:Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London.
A pre-1925 470 Nitro Express by Wilkinson built on a large and stout action body with sideclips. 26" Krupp steel Extractor chopper lump barrels with a dolls head extension and third bite.1/4 rib with 1 standing and 3 folding sight blades. Birmingham proofed at 75gr cordite with 500gr bullet. Bushed strikers, double triggers, extended trigger guard tang to steel grip cap.14 7/16 LOP over red recoil pad.Proper 470 weight of 11lb and 5oz. Swing lever forend release. 95% coverage of broad scroll engraving.Very nice wood, that remains stout on both stock and forend.The barrels have been reblacked and now are at 96%. 25% of original case colors.The bores are virtually new. It is smack on the face of the breech.
It is an accurate rifle- see the photo of 2 shots at 55 yards with fixed sight. The rifle also accounted for a nice mature buffalo and crocodile in the Zambezi valley in 2022.
The piece is most likely a James Wilkinson of the Wilkinson Sword Co. Ltd. From 1906 to 1920 Wilkinson put no serial numbers on their guns. This gun is numbered 55517 and most likely built about 1922. They stopped selling guns in 1939.
Included in the sale is everything you see in the case plus a couple of pages of history. So, the rifle, selvyt cloth, case, oil bottle, snap caps(Kynoch), cleaning jags in pouch and leather sling.
I alo include wilkinson razor blades as this was what the company later became known for and an exhibition Fairbairn Sykes dagger made by Wilkinson sword as well.
