Description:
   ***    SOLD   ***   Handsome12 bore Purdey self-opener “heavy” game gun made in 1926 when the build quality of English shotguns was at an all-time high. This Beesley action Purdey game gun is in very good condition. Recently refurbished with fire blued pins and hinge pin covers the engraving is sharp and crisp and the action and sideplates have residual case coloring. The nicely figured stock has a refreshed hand rubbed oil finish and crisp checkering. The overall weight of the gun is 7lb 2oz making it ideal for game as well as clays. Articulated front trigger, disc set strikers, and automatic safety. Presented in a leather case with maker's label.  ***   The 30” nitro steel barrels have excellent bluing and shiny bores. Chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells and London nitro proofed for 1-1/8oz. Topped by a raised solid concave gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “J. Purdey & Sons Audley House South Audley Street London   Made of Sir Joseph Whitworth’s Fluid Pressed Steel”. The right barrel is bored 0.735 with a constriction of 0.007 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028. The left barrel is bored 0.734 and has a constriction of 0.028 for Improved Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.027.   ***   The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of nicely figured European walnut. The checkering is crisp and the drop points well defined. There are a few handling marks on the buttstock. Stock dimensions are 15-1/8” including a 7/8” silver style pad by 1-1/2” by 2-1/4”. Cast off for the righthand shot.   ***   The slightly heavier weight of this Purdey game gun makes it an equally excellent choice for sporting clays.
