Superb carbine with crisp-detailed markings and cartouches, coming from my private collection; the best example I had seen in 15 years of collecting! The includes the carbine with the sling, a very rare Police Carabineros side arm (Alex Coppel); a Police Carabineros Orden Y Patria plate in a case and a Carabineros patch. In 1935, Mauser OBERNDORF was contracted by the government of Chile to build 10,000 new carbines. The guns were specially made and provided to the Carabineros de Chile, a military styled investigative POLICE force under the Ministry of the Interior. The Carabineros covered much of the rugged and remote countryside by horseback, and the side mounted sling was handy. The crossed rifle logo of the police force is nicely stamped on the receiver ring, with the slogan "ORDEN Y PATRIA", which translates to honor and homeland. Chile’s MODELO 1935 in 7x57mm rifle is unique. It is actually labeled as a carbine while having the 21.50-inch barrel of the short rifle. It is based on the Mauser Model 1898 action, but this time Chile returned to Germany for manufacture at Mauser-Werke in Oberndorf and carries the MAUSER BANNER LOGO on the rear of the receiver as used during the 1930’s. The stock has pistol grip and sling swivels on the stock’s left side of the Chilean Model 1935 rifles. Out of the 10,000 made, a very small number of these rifles were imported to the US meanwhile, a good quantity still remains in Chile to use for parades and training purposes. Condition: From my personal collection. Overall in Excellent condition, very clean gun with NO visible pitting above woodline. Well defined, deep markings, inspection marks and cartouches. Appearing ALL ORIGINAL, ALL CORRECT MILITARY CONFIGURATION, ALL MATCHING NUMBERS (receiver, barrel, all exposed parts of the bolt, magazine floor plate, barrel bands, cleaning rod, butstock and wood handguard. Appearing to have the original bluing very nice bright deep, clean on the receiver and on the rear bridge; although there is some edge wear, fading and thinning on the exposed forward portion of the barrel, floor plate, trigger guard and bands exhibiting some smooth grayish-plumb even pleasing patina, scratches-handling marks, scattered very few tiny aging spots in the barrel between barrel bands. Beautiful CROSS RIFLES Orden Y Patria CARABINEROS Crest on the reciver ring and the MAUSER BANNER logo on the rear of the receiver. Bright Bent bolt as manufactured, with the bolt face clean without a ring around the firing pin hole. Buttplate has aging spots specially on the upper part; scratches-handling marks. The original MATCHING German walnut stock has NO CRACKS, NO GAUGES, NO CHIPS; it has nicely marked cartouches, and because of the beautiful grain the cartouches are crisp and well defined; showing the usual discoloration, stains, tiny dents, scuffs, scratches, bruises, nicks, handling marks (also commonly found firing pin dents from officers servicing the carbine on the field). Stock has NO CRACKS, NO GAUGES, NO CHIPS. Action is nice and crisp appearing in good working order. To the naked eye, the bore is smooth, bright with good rifling, light gray groves. It has a tiny discreet import mark on the right side of the barrel above the bayonet lug. The sling swivels are in good condition. It Includes the original leather sling in good supple condition with some expected wear and minor creases; stitching is good. This rifle seems to have been carry more than it has been shot; the bolt face is clean with NO ring around firing pin. Crisp markings; "crowned B" (Beschuss-fired), " crowned G" (geschoss-projectile), "crowned N" (nitrocellulose) and the "crowned U" (untersuchung-examination) besides the MAUSER-WERKE A.G. OBERNDORF A/N on the side of the receiver. Book pictures for reference only. SIDE ARM: Carabineros Yataghan 1908. Sidearm is made from the ALEX COPPEL French M1874 Gras sword bayonet and scabbard. This sidearm utilizes the blade and crosspiece of the French M1874 Gras sword bayonet, mated to a cast brass hilt. The blade is shortened and the muzzle ring adjustment screw ground flush. The M1874 scabbard has the French frog loop replaced with a stylized brass frog stud and a brass chape added to close the shortened scabbard body. According to the Museo Histórico Carabineros de Chile (Carabineros Historical Museum of Chile), this sidearm was designated Carabineros Yataghan 1908. They indicate that these were produced by the German firm Alex Coppel of Solingen for the Policías Fiscales (Fiscal Police). Increasing unrest and protests by Marxists gave rise to the need for a national police force. The Policías Fiscales were established in 1896 and became Chile’s first professional police. Although a police force, the Policías Fiscales also were involved in social policy related to children, establishing evening schools to educate poor children and their working parents; and shelters to keep orphaned and abandoned children away from street crime. In 1927, the Policías Fiscales and Arma dei Carabinieri (a mounted rural paramilitary police) merged to create the Carabineros de Chile, Chile’s present-day national police. The side arm brass handle has the Chilean Coat of Arms. Blade is bright with few tiny scattered pits, aging spots, scratches-handling marks as well as the scabbard. The scabbard fits the side arm well; it has finish loss, scratches and aging spots. Overall this rifle is an outstanding specimen of a very scarce CARBINE-SHORT rifle (21.5" which it makes it very desirable for its maneuverability) . ONLY 10,000 made (very few made it to the US). 1935 BANNER MAUSER rifle for the CHILEAN POLICE OBERNDORF German made with the ORDEN Y PATRIA cross rifle on the receiver ring in ALL MATCHING; ALL ORIGINAL COMPLETE (with cleaning rod and sling) CORRECT MILITARY CONFIGURATION very hard to upgrade that would make a fine addition to you collection.
