EXCEEDINGLY RARE, ALMOST NEVER SEEN REMINGTON .45-70 BOLT ACTION KEENE CIVILIAN U.S. NAVY MODEL FULL STOCK MUSKET. Only a small handful of these were made aside from the 250 specially made for the Navy in 1880 which have anchor and naval inspection marks etc. This example appears partially restored. The barrel appears to have good original blue with some wear and scuffing. The barrel is fitted with a Buffington rear sight and normal musket front sight. The bolt and marked portion on top of the receiver are correctly bright with sharp markings/patent dates etc. The small 45-70 caliber stamping on the left side of the receiver is clear. It seems the receiver, barrel bands and trigger guard have been reblued, but not buffed. The stock does not appear to have been refinished or sanded and all wood to metal fit is excellent. I believe if one could easily "age" the blue on the parts mentioned and any refinish work would about disappear. Action is tight with cartridge lifter spring only weak, and the bore is bright and excellent with only one or two minor surface spots. There is still some nice case color on the hammer. Unusual side-mounted cleaning rod is intact. One of the absolute rarest Remington long arms. A little careful de-restoration work would go a long way on this one.
