These interesting and attractive rifles were made in Texas in the 1970s for a short time only. They were a copy of the Allen & Thurber rifles from the 1840s period and feature a brass receiver, trigger guard and very heavy semi-Swiss butt plate (like the originals). Some of these had brass forends while others, like this, had wood forends. The stock and forend are made from fancy curly maple and the 32 inch barrel is fitted with an adjustable rear sight with a long blade/bead front sight. The barrel is simply stamped "MOWRY 54" and serial number. The brass is uncleaned and shows a nice mustard patina. The barrel blue shows some thinning and possibly old hard grease staining that should be easily removed. Action is tight, bore is bright and excellent and the cleaning rod has the screw-in cleaning jag/ball pusher tip attached. One of the more unusually attractive American made muzzle loaders from the 1970s. Not often seen.
