NEW PHOTOS-Axtell Rifle Company 1877 Sharps Long Range #2 40-70 Sharps Straight (2 1/2 inch). Serial number of this gem is #142 so very early 90s production. The barrel is 34 inch round tapered Rigby style with mint blue finish. Barrel marked with Axtell Rifle Co. and caliber. Receiver, lever, and hammer with color case hardened finish in mint condition. Stock is walnut with checkered pistol grip, butt plate is composition, with Schnabel forearm tip. Wood is like new. LOP is 13 5/8 inches. Total gun length is 50 1/2 inches
Comes with adjustable globe front sight with level. No option for rear sight. Comes with Axtell long range venier in correct number with 4 inserts.
Single checkered trigger. Weight is 10lbs and 1oz. Barrel is 99%+ blue and looks beautiful outside. Case colors are nice with some silvering as shown on pics but again looks great in the daylight. Not as vibrant as Shilohs but nicely aged. The wood is gorgeous with very faint handling marks, checkering is not damaged and looks mint. Bore is clean and sharp with nice rifling. I am going out on a limb here and say this rifle has not been shot and if so it couldnt have been more than a few rounds as there are no chambering marks. Absolutely a mint rifle with early serial number.
