Description:
Charles-François Galand (1832–1900) was a French gunsmith who worked in Liège, Belgium, and Paris, France. He manufactured countless revolvers for civilian and military use. The company he founded continued operations until 1942. This very scarce pair of single shot target revolvers was based upon a Stevens-Lord action. The 7-sided barrels are 10.5 inches long. Drift adjustable front sight, fully adjustable rear sight, operationally similar in many respects to the sight found on the Bergmann 1896 target pistol. Left side of receiver marked GALAND/FAB. Belgian proofs on the left side of the barrel and receiver. Major components rust blued, fire blued sights, hammer and trigger in the white. Smooth ivory stocks. Unadorned grip cap. The pistols, bullet mold, screw driver, and brass cleaning rod in French fitted oak case with 2 small covered compartments for minor accessories. Unmarked shield on lid of case, which is key locked (key included) and has a brass carry handle. Synopsis: A massive and extraordinary 50 caliber Galand single shot target pistols with fully adjustable rear sight, Russian style trigger guard, and ivory stocks in presentation case with accessories. Condition: 95-97% original rust blue with some sharp edge etching, particularly on the backstrap of each pistol. Less noticeable etching is under the frame #5675 and under the barrel #5676 as photographed. Mirror bores in both guns. Perfect manual mechanics. Comparable condition accessories with more etching on the bullet mold. VG+ case with interior stains and scattered scuffs on exterior. An extraordinary, massive pair of target pistols with ivory stocks and accessories from the turn of the last century. ~~Insured shipping fee of $155; most packages shipped using FedEx 2nd Day.~~
