Description:
*** SOLD*** For the Serious Collector!!! Extremely Rare, 1924 Colt 1911A1 "Transition" Pistol, U.S Property, 45 auto, All Correct!
1924 marks the transition year for Colt 1911 military pistols, when they moved from the WWI model of 1911 to the 1911A1. Only 10,000 (serial number 700,000-710,00) of these guns were produced in 1924, featuring all the approved changes that will appear on the 1911A1 models. These transition pistols were known as the "Improved M1911" pistols. The serial number on this pistol is 709559, making this gun not only 1 of 10,000 ever made, but also 1 of only 1,000 that were reserved for National Match use (709,001-710,000 (Charles Clawson's small book, pg 31). Definitely ONE OF A KIND!!!
This pistol was one of 1,000 shipped to Commanding Officer, Springfield Armory on May 6th, 1924!
The slide has the proper "H" mark on rear above the firing pin stop, and the correct disconnector recess (1-710,000). The frame features the correct "WTG" monogram of Inspector Walter T. Gordon, (Captain, Dec 5, 1921-Mar. 3, 1926). No "P" under the magazine latch, correctly, since that had not been approved yet, and No "cross cannons", also correct for the period! A number "20" on upper right side of trigger (correct assembler's mark). Also has appropriate "H" and "G" marked on the receiver by disconnector hole.
Correct Colt (unmarked) two tone type 4 magazine. Correct Barrel, marked "HP" on top of the chamber, with distinctive rifling and grooves but a some frosting, as expected for a 99 year old gun. Correct sights, with U shape aperture on rear sight. Correct walnut stocks in excellent shape with 28 rows +- between screw holes. Correct hammer, slide stop, grip safety, checkered short trigger and all small parts! This pistol surely has seen some battle fields, the bluing is worn which adds to the charming of the pistol. Fully functional!
This is an extremely rare piece! Don't miss out on it!!!
Cashier checks & money orders, same as cash. Personal checks will be held until funds clear (3-5 business days).
