#S 143310, Smith & Wesson .45 Hand Ejector Model of 1955 Pre-Model 25, It was shipped from the factory on June 13, 1955 to George Lawrence Co., Portland, Oregon, 6 1/2" pinned barrel with a rib, Micrometer adjustable rear sight, Ramped blade front sight, Serrated top strap & rib, Case hardened trigger and hammer, Target hammer and target trigger, It has the very unusual proto type “W” main spring, Serial numbers match on the cylinder and frame, 5 screw frame, Checkered diamond target grips with the S&W medallions, This piece remains original, The original barrel blue remains at 98%, The frame and cylinder blue at 92-93%, The original grips remain at 95%, The bore is excellent plus.
An interesting side note to this gun as it went to the George Lawrence Co. in Portland. The George Lawrence Company, established in 1857 at 1st & Oak Streets in Portland, Oregon, was a saddlery and harness shop made famous by also producing exquisite leather goods such as handgun holsters, cartridge belts, slings, scabbards, etc. At one time the George Lawrence Co. was the largest saddle and harness maker on the west coast. The quality of their leatherwork was renowned and a famed icon in saddle making. In the 1980's the last surviving family member was still active in the leather trade, William “Bill” Lawrence.
