Beautiful crisp engraving with Grant’s signature fluted fences that looks as good today as it did in 1906 when this gun, no. 7594, was delivered to its first owner. Very rare to find a English best from this period is part of a quattro. So marked on the forearm iron and the trigger guard. Sometime along the way it has been restocked in a very highly figured piece of European walnut. The gun has been recently professionally refinished with deep blue on the barrels and a handrubbed oil finish on the stock. Presented in its Brady canvas and leather with some accessories including maker’s snap caps. Weighs 6lb 13oz. Balances on the hinge pin and swings like a dream. *** The barrels were sleeved sometime in the past with 28” nitro steel barrels with 2-3/4” chambers. The bores are shiny and bright and the outside of the barrels has a deep, rich bluing. The sleeving was done awhile ago using the soft solder method and there is a visible ring at the seam. They are topped by a raised solid tapered concave gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “Stephen Grant & Sons 67 St. James’s Street London”. The right barrel is bored 0.732 with a constriction of 0.012 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032. The left barrel is also bored 0.732 and has a constriction of 0.025 for Improved Modified Choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.031. *** The buttstock was replaced sometime in the past and is made of highly figured European walnut with a checkered butt and engraved heel and toe plates. It has well defined drop points and only a few minor dings from normal handling. I believe the forearm wood is original. Both the stock and forearm have crisp checkering. Stock dimensions are 14-1/2” to a checkered butt by 1-1/2” by 2”. Cast off for the righthand shot. *** A handsome and great handling gun with beautiful engraving and knock-out wood from a top tier London gunmaker. Chambered for 2-3/4” shotshells and sidelever opening. You will be proud to uncase this Grant at the range or for a day afield. *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description.
