CLASSIC SHILEN DGA REPEATING BOLT ACTION SPORTING RIFLE IN .243 WIN., #4XX, PROBABLY MADE IN THE 1970s. The Shilen "DGA" stood for "Damn Good Action" and is distinctive with its octagon receiver profile. The solid top receiver is, of course, drilled and tapped for scope mounting. These were very understated sporting rifles with almost all manufactured without checkering, yet utilizing nicely figured dense reddish/brown walnut and slim black butt plates by Pachmayr. Bolt handles were left bright. Shilen was known for making some of the most accurate bench rest rifles of the day and their reputation for quality and accuracy in their barrels lives on today (if I didn't own three Shilen DGA rifles myself, I'd keep this one!) This rifle came out of here in Montana and has a 24" barrel. All of these I've seen have had "blind magazines" without removable floor plates as the rigidity of this adds in accuracy. These are truly terrific rifles, every one of which I've encountered has been a tack driver. They were all hand built to perfection. This one shows some minor scratches here and there that would be easy to rub out, or just leave as is- all minor. Bright, sharp excellent bore and crisp, light trigger. Show up hunting or at a range with one of these and people in the know will regard you as a serious and knowledgeable shooter! A truly class act.
