Original and Unaltered. Recently acquired from a South Carolina Estate, Colt 1911A1 #1727912 Manufactured in Late December 1944/January 1945. Original Parko-Lubrite finish. All small parts are correct and original to the gun, including the Colt 45 AUTO marked barrel with “7” forward of the lugs. The wear patterns on the barrel bed matches the frame perfectly. This pistol shows a good amount of wear but is not abused by any means. The bright circular spot on the serial number suggests that this pistol spent a considerable amount of time in a M1916 pattern holster, has the rivet rubs in that area.
The most interesting feature about this Colt 1911A1 is the narrow spur serrated hammer that was manufactured for Colt’s by Gray Manufacturing Company. It is uncertain how many hammers were manufactured or used. However only a handful of examples have been observed. The few examples that have been encountered have been in the same narrow serial range of 172xxxx to 173xxxx. The serrated Colt hammers are finished with Parko-Lubrite whereas Ithaca hammers have a dark parkerized finish.
